Thursdays are for throwbacks. Let’s go down memory lane to the days we used to receive corporal punishment as students. That was the period for juvenile delinquency so it was expected our parents, guardians, and teachers instilled discipline in us. When it seemed we had gotten used to flogging, they made us serve severe punishments. See if you recall some of them mentioned:
1.Pick pin
The student is made to bend with one leg up, one hand behind and a finger of the other hand touching the ground.
2. Frog jump
This limping from one end to the other with hands holding ears.
3. Kneeling down
The knees would become weak if one knelt for long. It is accompanied by raised hands.
4. Drive ‘okada‘
Imagine the posture of driving a bike. The student is made to take that posture for several hours. It can be draining and weakening.
5.Sitting on floor/stand on your table
This was very humbling because you are the odd one from the lot. It made one appear foolish.
The joy of corporal punishment is that it taught us how to manage pain.
