The New Year often brings with it a sense of new beginnings; a clean slate. It’s touted as a time when you reclaim your life and somewhat reinvent yourself. It’s the ultimate time for a rebirth – or so they say. So, we pick up pens and write our resolutions, promising to follow through with each point, this time.
But, how long does it last? Last year, mine lasted a month.
Unsatisfied with the turn of events, I decided to dig deeper to understand why achieving my resolutions failed before it ever took off. Beyond the curve balls life threw at me that were beyond my control, I realized it wasn’t enough to write a list of things I wish to accomplish every year. I also needed to detail how I plan to achieve each one every day.
Every day is an opportunity to push towards your set goals. For instance, if a goal of yours is to start your business and a resolute regarding this is to be better disciplined, the next imperative question to ask is: how? How can I be more disciplined in other to achieve my goal to start a new business?
The answer to this question would likely open up a flood gate of more questions which in turn would lead to a broader approach of how you can take daily steps to build a disciplined character.
Resolutions can’t be left to chance; they require intentional and conscious actions to achieve the necessary and desired changes in your life.
What are your resolutions and how do you plan to achieve them?
