The most important thing after the engagement and the start of wedding plans is to look out for the wedding ring.
Check out our guide on every important factor to consider before saying “I do”.
1. Narrow down your ring choices
This may seem overwhelming initially, but take it a step at a time and work out what you want before shopping around.
2. Consider buying your rings and bands together
If you want to surprise your boyfriend/girlfriend with an engagement ring, know what bands go with the engagement ring. Also, think about how the rings fit together and talk to your jeweller about finding a band that works with your ring.
3. Start your ring search early
You’ll need at least two to three months before the wedding date to ring shop and research prices. If you want a custom ring, allow even more time.
4. Mix it up
If you like silver and your partner likes rose gold, you can choose wedding bands that reflect your individual styles.
5. Set a budget
Shop with the notion that you’ll spend about 3 per cent of your total wedding budget on the rings. Embellishments, like diamonds or engraving, will quickly escalate the cost.
6. Consider your lifestyle
Remember that you are going to wear this band every day or almost every day. Hence, the goal is to choose something that would easily become a part of your life e.g. If you are into sports or playing instruments, a slimmer ring with rounded edges may make the most sense.
7. Try something that is different
Try on rings that aren’t on your inspiration board and let the jeweler make suggestions. Be open to trying new things, and try writing and texting in the dress to find out if you are comfortable.
8. Think long term
Be trendy, but make sure the ring is durable and can last long. You can always make changes later on.
9. Practise maintenance
To keep a wedding band with stones clean, wash it in warm soapy water, brush it with a soft toothbrush, rinse it, and pat it dry with a soft cotton cloth.
10. Size the ring right
To find the right size for your ring, schedule your final ring fitting at a time when your body temperature is normal and your hands are calm.
11. Check for the quality
Quality control applies to all rings, not just wedding bands. Make sure the ring has two marks inside the band.
