Last week Friday, the 11th of October, was the international day of the girl child. So, today, we are using this opportunity to celebrate our Woman Crush Wednesday, Carolyn Seaman, who is building a powerful girls’ right movement with her Girls Voices Initiative.
Thanks to her passion to see girls involved in the tech industry, she founded the Girls Voices Initiative which according to the website:
Girls Voices Initiative is a nonprofit that works to educate adolescent girls and women about their rights in law and we empower the girls with the skills to use technology and digital media to lead advocacy for the protection of their rights and welfare in society. We are building the most GIRL CENTRIC girls’ rights movement and we are nurturing an empowerment platform for girls, by girls. We call it the GIRL DOMINO – an empowerment system that creates a multiplier effect with the sole aim of connecting, strengthening and amplifying girls voices for positive impact in their communities.
The aim of this initiative doesn’t stop at initiating girls into the tech-industry but to arm them with the tools needed for leadership.
This initiative continues to be a huge success as over 100,000 adolescent girls have been reached directly through Girl Voices Initiative’s girl-centred programs, and with its girl leaders, it has reached over 80 million people through various programs.
Her work is amazing and will definitely have a ripple effect when it comes to bridging the socio-economic gap between the sexes in our society.
