Food is a big deal in Nigeria thanks to the diversity of our taste buds springboard from our multiple and complex cultures. This background makes the food business a profitable one in Nigeria. However, like most businesses, not everyone gets it right and our Woman Crush Wednesday, Folayemi Agusto, arrived at this conclusion in a heartbeat.
Folayemi co-founded Eat.Drink.Lagos, a restaurant review platform that started out as a blog focused on her and her co-founders dining experiences in restaurants within Lagos State. The blog fast became a go-to for honest restaurant reviews to Lagos residents.
Fast-forward to 2015, the first every Eat.Drink.Lagos festival was hosted to celebrate Nigeria’s food and drink culture while showcasing up and coming food vendors and celebrity chefs.
Folayemi holds a B.Sc in Sociology from the University of Virginia. She was one of the 50 women celebrated by TechCabal in its Tech Women Lagos portrait series and exhibition. She started her career as an event and sponsorship assistant at Airtel Nigeria, then moved to finance as an equity research analyst, and then to Andela.
We celebrate her innovative work in partly revolutionizing the Nigerian food industry and we can’t wait to see what more is in store from Eat.Drink.Lagos.
