Our Woman Crush Wednesday, Kome Otobo has distinguished herself with her track record of excellence spanning over 15 years. She holds a law degree, worked for several years in private and public healthcare, and now applies her passion and talents in the NGO and publishing sectors.
Kome is a graduate of King’s College London and Queen Mary University of London. Her core interest lies in building and maintaining the competencies of project management, for example, conflict resolution and personal accountability, serving to address the low level of trust permeating the Nigerian working environment. Upon her return to Nigeria in 2018 after living and working in the United Kingdom for over 20 years, she was bent on sharing the formidable skills she had acquired. These skills were formed from working with prestigious institutions like the world-class Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Kome serves as the Managing Editor of Malthouse Press Nigeria, a bespoke publishing house founded in 1985 that provides a high-quality publishing and printing service to Nigeria and West Africa. She enjoys the publishing process – bringing books to life from the commissioning of ideas to the printed copies on shelves.
She is also the Senior Project Manager at Incubator Africa, and manages the Education Hub, a product of Incubator Africa, which provides an ecosystem for reformers in the key sectors of education, health, and governance. Kome works closely with organisations such as Teach for Nigeria, Health for Nigeria, and the #FixPolitics Initiative, which are pushing for a better Nigeria.
Kome further engages in transforming Nigeria through her work as the Chief Operating Officer and Board Member for The Light at the End of the Tunnel (L.E.T.) Foundation Nigeria, a charity that aims to better the lives of differently abled people living in Lagos State specifically, and Nigeria as a whole. As a part of this much-needed initiative, she is involved in raising awareness of the plight of differently abled Nigerians, as well as advocating for fairer policies and greater resources for them.
Kome is currently writing her first book, which is a retrospective examination of the intersection between religion, politics, and culture in Nigerian society. She anticipates it will be published in 2022. Pride Magazine Nigeria celebrates her for the giant strides made in her different spheres of influence and how she joins others in shaping a positive future for Nigeria. Kome is indeed an ideal Woman Crush Wednesday.
