As our custom today, we bring to you our Woman Crush Wednesday. Sophiat Bello is in the spotlight. She is one of the amazons shaping the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) space. In the space of eight years, she has built a stellar career in marketing and communications and continuously strives to improve her expertise.
Before her current position as Category Manager at Promasidor Nigeria – a leading FMCG company, Sophiat first worked as a social media executive at a startup digital agency – Utopia Media in Lagos in 2012. There she managed the social media pages for the agency’s major client – Durex. While managing Durex’s social media accounts, she masterminded the growth of the brand’s social media presence and deconstructed the silence around sexual wellbeing for young Nigerians. She later moved to a different digital agency – 3rd Floor Digital Consultancy – where she worked as a digital marketing specialist, managing accounts for The PZ Cussons group.
In 2014, Sophiat left the agency world and transitioned to the client-side to join Custodian and Allied Insurance, a top tier insurance company. She formed an integral part of a team responsible for driving the retail products of the company and making insurance accessible to the younger generation. Later in the same year, Sophiat joined Promasidor Nigeria to take on the role of Digital Marketing Specialist. At that time, the company decided to move all in-house digital marketing strategies. Forming her in-house team, she successfully managed all associated accounts.
Not resting on her oars, Sophiat took on an additional role of Media Coordinator during her second year in Promasidor. In her dual role, she managed the traditional media buying of the company and developed a successful viral campaign to drive the Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics TV Quiz Show across all digital platforms.
Yet again, in 2018, Sophiat made another career switch into brand management, managing the Onga brand at Promasidor. She grew it into one of Nigeria’s biggest seasoning brand to date. This outstanding achievement on the Onga brand won her several accolades and awards both within the organization and externally. In February 2020 Sophiat got promoted to the role of Category Manager for the Culinary business of Promasidor. She joined Simon Page College of Marketingas a faculty member in 2015, where she tutors on digital marketing in line with CIM and DMI curricula. Sophiat has set herself apart as an astute career professional; one who is success-driven and passionate. For these reasons and more, she wears the Pride Woman Crush Wednesday badge of honour. So we celebrate her all the way.
