The name may not ring a bell because it’s of its non-affiliation to pop culture, however, if you an art enthusiast or artist, you’re sure to recognize the name, Tokini Peterside. Who is Pride Magazine Nigeria’s woman crush this wednesday.
A painting on the wall may be ambiguous in meaning or it could hold just one. How then would you know which it is without the presence of the artist to guide you through the inspiration behind each art piece? (Except, of course, you much prefer the allure of uncertainty; letting your imagination do the storytelling.) Peterside has bridged this gap of knowledge by creating, in 2016, the first ever international art fair in West Africa – Art X.
If you are a lover of art, you’ll appreciate the Art X vision, which simply put, is aimed at contributing to the increased visibility of African artists. We have other reasons for crushing on her beyond being the creative behind Art X.
Her brilliance
Does graduating from the London School of Economics & Political Science(LSE) with a first class degree equate intelligence? Yes! She also bagged a Solicitors Legal Practice Course Certificate from the College of Law, UK, and a fashion marketing certificate from Instituto Marangoni. The woman is a walking body of knowledge! It is no wonder she was selected as a speaker for the inaugural TedX Lagos event.
She is a new school cultural ambassador using the concept of “soft power” to re-write the African narrative on the international stage. Similar to artists such as Modupeola Fadugba and Emeka Ogboh.
Her Style
Peterside’s style embodies sophistication and class. If her clothes could speak, they would say “I am strong, bold, and I exude power”. She tilts towards neutral colours and clean-cut silhouettes.
Her signature hairdo
Women who have signature hairstyles may be more interesting and adventurous than you think. And although her signature look is ubiquitous, we still appreciate Peterside’s commitment to braids with a centre part.
