Most women tend to suffer from bad edges. This embarrassing hair condition leaves the woman less confident. If she has been more careful with her hair routine and hairstyle, edge loss could have been avoidable. The good news is that bad edges are not permanent, your damaged hair can regrow. These hair tips would help you do this:
1. Review your hair practices
Do you often massage your edges? You need to massage your hair edges once every 2 days for 2 months continually to improve blood circulation. This makes hair grow.
2. Choose appropriate hairstyles
Stop wearing braids or weaves when you notice you are going bald. Instead, start wearing loose wigs to cover up. Don’t allow any hairdresser to apply glue to your lace wig because you could lose all your edges in the process.
3. Review the products you are using
Try using natural products that contain any of these-Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Rosemary, Biotin, Ginseng, Moringa, Lavender, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Centella and Zingiber.
4. Wash your hair frequently
Do you wash your hair regularly? It is an important hair routine. Do this at least once a week or every two weeks with a sulfate-free shampoo. As natural oils, hair products and air pollution all build-up on your hair, it is required you wash your hair regularly to keep it clean. Avoid any products containing sodium lauryl sulfate and ensure you deep condition afterward.
5. Understand your hair growth cycle
The hair sheds naturally, so stop doing hairstyles that lead to more hairloss. There are four stages of the hair growth cycle, the Anagen (Growing), Catagen (Resting), Telogen (Shedding), and Exogen (Dormant) phase. During the shedding (Telogen phase) the hair dies without adequate nourishment and pulls out. Approximately 50 to 150 hairs can fall out daily, this is considered to be normal hair shedding.
6. Pay attention to your diet
Remember, you are what you eat. Always include the following in your diet- Salmon (Omega 3 fatty acids), Nuts (great source of protein, & biotin), Eggs (Zinc & Iron), Carrots (Vitamin A), Dark Green Vegetables (Vitamin A & C), Lentils (Folic Acid), Poultry (great source of Protein).
7. Stay consistent with your hair journey
Don’t give up when you don’t see instant results. Continue this for 2 months straight until your edges have grown back. Once it has grown back, continue a good hair regime for the rest of your life. It is advisable to stay away from both weaves and braids for at least 6 months until your scalp is strong.
