Hollwwood actor, John Boyega slammed Sky News for a controversial article that compared a traditional African hairstyle to coronavirus with a witty headline.
On Saturday morning, the Star Wars actor called out the news outlet over an article published by their website on Monday, with the headline: “Spiky coronavirus haircut growing in popularity in Africa, here’s why.”
The article in question referred to a technique that uses threaded yarn to style hair, claiming it has had popularity in Kenya due to “financial struggles linked to the coronavirus restrictions, along with raising awareness that Covid-19 is real”
An irritated John Boyega asked if the news outlet had lost their minds. He advised they needed to do research before sending out articles like this.
The Sky News article in question, which featured a quote from a mother in Kenya telling the news outlet that she chose the hairstyle for her daughter because “money is scarce” as a result of the pandemic, said: “The hairstyle also helps in communicating with the public about the virus.”
