It was the day Arsenal fans around the world had been waiting for. 3,283 days to be exact. Arsenal finally ended their nine year trophy drought by beating Hull City 3-2 in a tense final at Wembley stadium.
The game got off to a nightmare start for the Gunners who conceded two goals in eight minutes (Chester and Davies respectively), but a superbly taken free-kick by Santi Carzola gifted Wenger’s men with their first goal and dramatically shifted the pace of the game.
Towards the end of the first half the Gunners were dominating but could not create an equaliser. The beginning of the second half was more of the same until Laurent Koscielny provided the desperately sought after second goal in the 71st minute.
Kieran Gibbs squandered a chance to end the game after he missed from the six yard line taking the game into extra time where the impeccable Aaron Ramsey scored the winner after 109 minutes.
Arsene Wenger, who has now won the FA Cup five times, hailed his squad for turning the game around and described the feeling as a ‘big moment of happiness,’ Wenger, whose contract has expired is now expected to commit himself to the club and sign a new deal shortly.
