It is embarrassing to have one’s teeth covered in tartar. This is why it is important to practice good oral hygiene. It takes a little effort to ensure that the teeth are in good condition. If you have good dentition, it makes you smile flawlessly. Naturally people are drawn to people who smile a lot and this is impossible if the teeth are in bad condition. So to prevent tartar buildup in the teeth, you should brush, rinse and floss with antiseptic mouthwash or toothpaste.
Tartar can make it harder to brush and floss which results to cavities and tooth decay. Any tartar that forms above your gum line could be bad for you. That’s because the bacteria in it can irritate and damage your gums. Over time, this might lead to progressive gum disease. The following tips help control teeth tartar:
1.Brush regularly, twice a day for 2 minutes a time. A 30-second scrub twice a day won’t remove plaque or prevent tartar. Use a brush with soft bristles that is small enough to fit into your mouth. Ensure you include the hard-to-reach surfaces behind your teeth and on your rear molars.
2. Studies have found that electronic, or powered, toothbrushes may get rid of plaque better than manual models.
3. Pick a tartar-control toothpaste with fluoride. Fluoride will help repair enamel damage. Some products have a substance called triclosan that fights the bacteria in plaque.
4. Floss! floss ! floss ! No matter how good you are with a toothbrush, dental floss is the only way to remove plaque between your teeth and keep tartar out of these hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.
5. Dow well to rinse your mouth daily. Use an antiseptic mouthwash daily to help kill bacteria that cause plaque.
6. Always watch your diet. The bacteria in your mouth thrive on sugary and starchy foods. When they are exposed to those foods, they release harmful acids. Try to eat a healthy diet and limit the number of sugary foods you eat. That goes for snacks, too. Every time you eat, you also feed the bacteria in your mouth. You don’t have to give up sweets or between-meals munches. Brush and drink plenty of water during and after meals.
7. Lastly, don’t smoke. Studies show that people who smoke cigarettes or use other tobacco products are more likely to develop tartar on their teeth.
