The big chop-off is likely to not be an overlooked stage while transitioning to natural hair. Most ladies dread the big chop off but it is a good way to give their hair a new lease. That way both relaxed hair and natural hair do not interfere to cause breakage. Perhaps you are ready for the big chop off, here is how to do it on your own without damaging your hair:
1.Wet your hair with water from a spray bottle. Don’t saturate your hair, but make sure that it’s very damp enough. Wetting your hair causes your natural hair to curl up more tightly. This makes it much easier to distinguish the relaxed part of your hair from the natural curl.
2. Look at a section of your hair. Then identify where your natural hair ends and where the relaxed hair begins.
3. Cut your hair to the point where the natural hair ends and the relaxed hair begins. If you’re nervous, cut about 1/2 inch before that point. Later on you can always come back to it and cut more off. Do this for your full hair.
4. Section your hair off into four to eight sections, depending on how thick and long it is.
5. Re-wet your hair, and snip off any straight ends that remain.
6. Wash your hair thoroughly to remove all loose strands. If you leave them in your hair too long, they will get entangled.
