Nigerian singer, John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille, in a deep conversation, revealed his chart-topping song “How Are You My Friend” was inspired by the impact of grief following the passing of his record label boss Don Jazzy’s mother.
He made this known during an interview with Hip TV. Johnny Drille unveiled the behind-the-scenes creation of the song. According to him, he co-wrote “How Are You My Friend” with Don Jazzy, revealing that it was the Mavin boss’s idea.
For ‘How Are You My Friend,’ the inspiration behind it was Don Jazzy losing his mum just a few weeks prior. I believe this song was his way of expressing his feelings, as many long-lost friends reached out to him during that time.
He further explained, “It made him realize that he had numerous friends he hadn’t connected with for years. I also believe we are living in challenging times, with a struggling economy and people facing hardships. Many individuals go through personal struggles that they may not feel comfortable sharing. Perhaps that’s why people have been able to resonate with the song.”
