… Continued from last week.
Tola contemplated the question for a minute as though she was trying to recollect the last time she had sex. From her facial expression, I could see the anxiety and uncertainty that immediately kicked in, so I sat right next to her and held her hand.
“When last did you have sex Tee?” I asked with all seriousness.
“I’m not sure,” she said, “maybe about a month ago.”
“Did you guys use protection?”
“I’m not sure. I can’t remember.”
“How can you not be sure Tee?” I asked in disbelief.
“Well we started out with a condom but things got a little heated and I may have taken them off.”
“And you let him cum inside you? Who is this guy and how come I haven’t heard about him?”
“I met him recently just before I returned to Nigeria, I don’t even think it’s a pregnancy issue,” she said dismissively.
“Well, we’ll have to be sure. When we get to the mall we’ll buy a test kit.”
“Enough of this pregnancy talk jor, tell me how it went with your doctor boyfriend?” she asked sarcastically.
“He is not my boyfriend and I’m not telling you since you did not tell me about your own,” I said, trying to be petty.
“Fine! I agree he is not your boyfriend; he is your personal ‘boy doctor,’ she continued fueling her sarcasm.
“Well, since you don’t want to be serious, I’ll take the liberty to paint you a picture.”
“Tell me, spill the tea babe!”
“We almost kissed!” I said in excitement.
“You slot!” she yelled jokingly.
“Look at this,” I said pointing at her, “pot calling kettle black! Go and dress up so we can leave this place jor.”
“Haba! No naa, give me the full gist!”
“Don’t worry; I’ll give you the full gist on our way.
When we got to the mall we were just about to go see a movie when we ran into Bolowe. It had been a while since I’d seen him. He had tried many times to reach me but I kept ignoring his calls.
“Hi Ebun, how have you been?” He gave me a passionate hug.
“I’m doing okay” I replied a little surprised at how long the hug lingered.
“This is my friend Tola, Tola you remember Bolowe right?”
They both exchanged compliments and he gestured to speak to me privately. He excused Tola and pulled me aside.
“What’s up with you Ebun? Why aren’t you picking up my calls?”
I couldn’t manufacture a decent lie, so I said, “Nothing much, I have just been going through some things.”
“But you know I’m always available for you to talk to.”
“I know you are but…”
Tola noticed I wasn’t comfortable with Bolowe and decided to rescue me.
“Sorry our movie has started we need to really go now,” she pulled me by the hand.
Bolowe asked if he could check up on me later in the day as she pulled me away and I gave him the nod.
“Thanks for saving me babes,” I let out a sigh.
“I noticed how awkward the both of you were and that was my signal to squash it,” she boasted.
“I’ll give you the gist later, let’s watch our movie first,” I said as we proceeded to the cinema.
He later came to the house just as he said he would. It was quite late, so I met him outside, in front of my house, for a quick chat.
“I have missed you Ebun, why have you refused to see me?”
“I can’t give you the full story now but I’ve been going for therapy.”
“You should have informed me about this, you know I care about you.”
Bolowe and I didn’t have chemistry, but he was extremely good-looking. I knew he cared about me and he was here to remind me of what I have been missing.
“I just didn’t want to bother you with it.”
“But it’s never a burden especially if it’s someone you share a special bond with,” you said looking me straight in the eye.
Bolowe was too good looking, and I couldn’t help myself. He was saying all the right things, how can anyone resist a man like this? I found myself staring at his lips and recollecting our intimate moment, so I kissed him…
To be continued next week.
