Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, has tested positive for the coronavirus disease. The 55-year-old made the announcement on his Twitter account on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 that he is “generally okay” and receiving treatment.
He tweeted:
“I’m already self isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team,”
I took my third Covid-19 test yesterday and it came back positive. I'm generally ok and I'm already self isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team. I'm delegating critical tasks to my Deputy but will continue routine duty from home. JKF

He also announced that his deputy, Adebisi Egbeyemi would be taking up critical tasks in the meantime. However, the governor said he would continue to do routine work from home.
Fayemi is the seventh Nigerian governor to test positive for the highly infectious novel disease. Bauchi’s Governor Bala Mohammed, Kaduna’s Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Oyo’s Governor Seyi Makinde, Abia’s Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Ondo’s Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and Delta’s Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have all tested positive to coronavirus previously. They have all recovered from the disease that has killed 805 people in Nigeria, as of July 21.
