The first paragraph of the statement posted by the Kofi Anan foundation, read: “It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness.”
The passing of the peacemaker and great world leader – at age 80, in a hospital in Bern, Switzerland – has come as a sad shock to Africans and the world. Undoubtedly, he will be missed.
He inspired in words and in deeds, evidenced in the outpouring of heartfelt words by people who knew him closely or indirectly.
