On Tuesday, October 20, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch covered the shooting of the EndSARS protesters at Lekki live on her Instagram page and this went viral. She is a Nigerian DJ, songwriter, rapper and producer.
Here are some facts to know about her:
1.DJ Switch was born on April 25 1984 in Warri, Delta State where she grew up.
2. She hails from Udi area of Enugu State, Nigeria.
3. She is the last child of eight children.
4. She is a geology graduate from the University of Port-Harcourt.
5. She left her well-paying job with the oil company, Halliburton to pursue a career in entertainment.
6. DJ Switch first came to the limelight when her music group, Da Pulse emerged as the winner of the 2009 edition of the reality music competition, Star Quest. They further went on to release a hit song titled, Pray So Tey, and featured American rapper, Busta Rhymes in the remix.
7. She got a big break in her career after she won the maiden edition of the Glo X-Factor in 2013. She was signed to Sony Music and later by Peter Okoye’s P-Classic record label as part of her prize winnings
8.DJ Switch has recorded a lot of hit songs which include Whine, Makusa, Clap for Them, Koma, Bad Man, Give me More, etc.
9. She was featured on Patoranking’s single “Bad Man” in 2016
10. She is the official DJ to one half of the P-square group, Peter also known as Mr P.
11. She is a single mother to a 15-year-old son.
12.She was a victim of molestation by her uncle, a catholic priest at age 11.
13. DJ Switch won the City People Award for Best Female DJ in 2016
