Dressing for your age does not mean you have to give up everything in your wardrobe as you advance in age. The idea is to still maintain your personal style going forward. A lady who turned 40 should not throw away wearing skinny jeans she rocked in her 20s to jump on overalls. She can still slay in any of the wears. She just needs more mature appeal. If a lady was a rock fashionista in her 20s, she can carry it to her 50s. Fashion trends evolve. This does not mean a lady has to change her style or personality completely, she only needs to be more adaptable.
For a lady in her 20s:
She is allowed to be adventurous. Making fashion blunders in your 20s is acceptable. The lady should experiment with different wears and combinations. She is still understanding her style so everything can go.
For a lady in her 30s:
She would need to drop anything that makes her too girlie. This is good period to be edgy in your wears. A mini skirt would be fine if paired with a sleek buttoned top and jacket on nice pumps. She can still be adventurous but needs to play safe to be taken seriously.
For a lady in her 40s:
At this stage, a lady needs to accessorise her wardrobe with polished and statement clothings. If you still look good in skinny jeans, don’t drop them off. Ladies in their 40s look better in skirts and dresses that are at least knee length. They would need to drop outfits that are too revealing e.g that shows too much cleavage and skin. This is a period to shine in classy timeless wears.
For a woman in her 50s:
You are officially getting old. However, there are women who still look great even in their 50s because they have been taken care of their body. During this period, physical beauty comes after maturity, confidence and wisdom. The woman should wear dresses that are smart and elegant. Fashion experts advise to wear dark or soft colours and drop brightly coloured wears. Your dressing doesn’t have to be boring, add complex cuts or sophisticated details, such as a ruffle-front blouse, a button-down shirt with a scarf tie, or a full skirt with an intricate lace trims.
For a woman in her 60s and above:
This is the time to be very conservative. Staying classy and elegant should be the goal. Wear jackets and coats with most of your outfits. As for blazers, they shouldn’t be either too form-fitting or slouchy, but comfortable and well-defined at the waist. Classic trousers, long A-line skirts, voluminous blouses, well-constructed jackets, shirt dresses, and coat dresses should fill your wardrobe. Also, stick to subdued shades and some eye-catching accessories. Let your outfits be a bit understated but compensate it with bold jewellery, scarves, shoes, or clutches.
