My dear daughter,
You’re my special girl; you’ve always been special to me since you were a little girl and even now you’re grown, my feelings towards you haven’t changed. All these years, I have tried my best (or I hope I have) to show you that I’m not just your father – which has been my greatest gift, but I can be your confidant too; someone you can count on to be there for you when you need to share your joy, pain, anger, successes and failures, trusting that I will give you the best advice I can muster.
My dear, I’m aware that sometimes you think my bits of advice are irrelevant and outdated; unsuitable for your generation’s problem, and you sometimes let it go over your head and ignore them, but I’ll never stop supporting you. It is my responsibility as well as my love for you that propels me to be there for you regardless of the choices you make.
Now you’ve gone away to college, I want you to remember that I’m always there for you. Whether it’s a phone call, a text, or an email; I’m never too far away for you to reach. Just keep in touch.
The truth is I miss having you around, the house feels a lot emptier without you. I recall how you used to help your mum cook meals and do the housework, and even look out for this old man’s comfort and well being. I love you, my dear daughter, and I’m thankful for being your father.
I truly hope you find your life’s purpose and make the best of it while making me proud.
Always remember that you are your own boss and equally responsible for your life. So take responsibility for your thoughts, attitude and actions because the seed to greatness is to live life responsibly.
Love you always,
Dad
