Chatting with Ellen Degeneres on the Ellen show, Jennifer Hudson expresses how ecstatic she is to be taking on what she describes as her ‘dream role’. The Actress and singer shared that she’ll be playing the late Aretha Franklin in a biopic, and claimed the icon had picked her for the role before her passing. “It’s always been my dream to play Aretha and it’s actually happening”, she mused.
Hudson, an American Idol alumnus, is notable for her powerful voice and brilliant acting which has accorded her tons of awards, pegging her as the best person for the role. However, taking up a role to play the life of someone as established as Franklin isn’t a walk in the park, but Hudson is determined to pull it off. “Think about it: it’s not just two, three decades of career”, she told Ellen. “This woman had a lifetime of a career. That’s like 70 years. I cannot even begin to imagine how long it’s going to take to cover.”
Faced with the overwhelming nature of the new role, she said, reassuringly, to Ellen and her audience “I’ll do it”.
