Introduction
I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down and be in the presence of a majestic woman named ‘Lola Owolabi’. Her magnetism derives from her heart to serve the community. Lola manages a full time career as a CEO of her company ‘Proud To Be Me’ and serves faithfully alongside her husband as a co-Pastor at ‘The Everlasting Arms Ministry’ in Old Kent Road, London. I met up with Lola to discuss how she balances being an entrepreneur with her busy lifestyle.
Background
Lola is a British born Nigerian, who at the age of 15 left the United Kingdom to relocate to Nigeria. During this time she studied communication and language arts at University of Ibadan, in Oyo State. Lola had a passion for working in the Public Relations industry.
Business
To be an entrepreneur, Lola believes you need passion about your product or services. Lola says “You need to take risks and multi task. You must have belief, confidence and unshakable faith in whatever it is you are doing. Be passionate about your vision and goals. Hard work and an attitude of excellence will always prevail”. As we know the road to business can be a rocky one, I have always found Lola to be a great encourager during the process. When you feel like quitting Lola says “Always remember your dreams and go back to the reason why you first started”.
Proud To Be Me
As a teenager Lola did not feel she had any gifts or talents to share with the world. Proud To Be Me was birthed out of the need to encourage young women to discover and realise their fullest potential. Proud To Be Me was established in 2008 and provide workshops in:
- Health and Nutrition
- Sex, Emotion and Relationships
- Dining Etiquette
- Dressing for Success
- Presentation and Entrepreneurship Skills
- Social Media Awareness
- Make Up & Skin Care
- Goal Setting
These workshops are designed specifically for young women between the ages of 13 to 18.
Church life
Pastor Lola co-pastor’s ‘The Everlasting Arms Ministry’ with her husband. Her particular duties are in the women ministries, the youth ministry and the main choir. Lola has a heart for serving the Lord and is very hands on and committed to community activities.
Conclusion
Lola is a qualified Life Coach and I personally have been working with her in this capacity for 12 months. I can say first hand that she is a Change Agent committed to the empowerment of women globally. Under her guidance I am improving my leadership skills daily. Lola is phenomenal woman who continues to participate in improving the quality women’s of lives.
