Let’s face it, if you are Nigerian there are some relationship myths you must have grown up listening to. These beliefs were mostly rooted in religion and the family value system.
They were immersed in our subconscious to prevent ‘embarrassing situations’ that my soil a family name. Everything sex and sexuality formed these myths, see if you can relate with some of them listed below:
1. Pregnancy came with a touch
These were mainly for girls who started exhibiting early signs of puberty. To keep them focused and not falling for youthful exuberance, they were told to guide their bodies jealously from intruders.
2. Having a soulmate
Till now, some people may believe that there is only one person made for them in the universe. As long as the one has not come in contact with that soulmate, all relationships efforts would be futile.
3. Never take a woman who says ‘Yes’ too early seriously
This is becoming outdated in today’s world. Before a woman who says ‘Yes’ to early may be regarded as desperate. No man wants to have a desperate woman on his case, it is something he won’t be able to deal with or treat without priority and respect. These days, if a woman says ‘yes’ too soon, it shows she has you at heart and is willing to go the extra mile with the man.
4. First date sex
Sleeping with a man on the first date means you are a slut and he won’t take you serious. This is still a contentious subject even up till now. But is it true? The rules that apply to this are pretty much the same as the ones that apply to the one about becoming a couple early. Whether first date sex or 10th date sex, if he is going to dump you afterwards, he sure will. And if he is going to stick with you, nothing is going to stop him from doing so.
