Death called today
Like an experienced secretary, my body answered
Sir, there’s someone on the line for you
Death greets me with a calm tone, says, “Hi”
“I’ve been expecting you”, I say
He laughs and with a smug tone says, “traffic”
He asks how my life’s been and I dive into memory lane
My struggles, my battles, strife,
I go through all the pain and suffering,
The anger, annoyance, frustration, disappointment and discontent.
My mind goes through my heartbreaks, sadness, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD), my depression.
I smile and tell him it’s been good
I tell him, “even as my time is up, I regret nothing.”
I’d take the pain and suffering, the anger, the annoyance, the frustration, I’d take it all
Cause they all led to her
My source of joy, happiness, hope, faith, peace, prosperity and love; her love”
I tell her how I’m glad to finally see her;
Glad to hold her in my arms and tell her I love her
I tell her, “thank you”
As I close my eyes, to sleep for the last time.
