Love goes beyond having butterflies in your tummy. It is an action word that combines different elements, actions and words. According to the Holy book, the greatest act of love was depicted by the heavenly father giving his only son for humanity. As much as the heavenly father gave, he did not expect anything in return. This is the hallmark of love- giving without expecting anything in return.
Love has many forms. Let us take a look at them:
1. Sacrifice
Sacrificial love is one of the highest acts of love. You do this by putting someone else’s needs before your own. This is the most you can do without expecting anything back. This act of love requires a lot of courage that most people don’t have.
2. Love without expectation
It is automatic to want your love acts to be reciprocated. But real love is shown in the ability to love someone without any conditions or expectations and know that you have loved the most.
3. Love is forgiving
Even before any person hurt you, you have forgiven. This should be practised in marriage and relationships. It is not as easy as it sounds but you must learn to let go of resentment and anger towards your loved one.
4. Love is about service
Real love does not engage in acts of service for selfish reasons. It may not be easy helping others in difficult situations but with love, understanding and kindness, it is a done deal. Being genuinely helpful and kind shows your love for the next person.
5. Empathy
Empathising with someone is not easy. Empathy is putting yourself in another’s shoes. Having empathy for people who have faced a difficult time and putting their needs above your own is love on a higher level.
