“This month…..” Nifemi said as she muttered the rest of the words to herself. She was praying and it was about getting a boo. She had started calculating how many Saturdays were left in the year. It was another frantic effort to get married. Most of her friends were already married. She couldn’t remember those who were still on the spinsterhood market. It seemed like a mission impossible because of the age factor.
The last strategy she used to land a boyfriend worked well. She had been ‘making pleasant noise’ on social media, lying that she had so many guys on her direct messages. Putting herself as a hotcake, she drew the attention of some guys. They felt if she was most wanted, it meant she was hot. Besides her latest display picture was there to entice and blow any meaningful guy’s mind. The photographer has done a beautiful job. In her monochrome wear, with weaves cascading down her shoulders and make-up on point, she put a finger on her chin looking all serious like a senatorial aspirant, Nifemi posed for the picture. It was just a head-shoulders photo. The feedback was amazing. Several likes and comments and drew people to her direct messages.
That was how she met Raymond. After months of chatting, they decided to take their relationship offline. The first meeting was not bad. They had a long talk about their future ambition. Guess where they had their date? In a local library. They both shared the same interest in reading. Infact it was the same book, they had read together that drew them together.
At the back of the local library, they had sat to chat and their discussion was on books. Raymond would have been the perfect guy. All of a sudden he just pulled out for no reason. He stopped communicating and left Nifemi wondering. That was months ago. Their communication had become one-way. She was the one doing all the reaching out till she got tired. It dawned on her that she was single yet again.
