Dear Diary
Imagine the 64-carat gold ring on my finger. Finally, I have married the man of my dreams. Everything is adding up and making sense. This month would forever be memorable in my life. It was not only birth month but the day I said ‘I do’ and became the latest bride and Mrs on the block. As I turned to the other side of the bed lo and behold-
Nyra would not lie she had mixed feelings about today. As she was thinking of everything that could go wrong, she also thought of all that could go right. Supposing the zipper of her bridal gown gave way. How about the heels of her shoes removing? Those negative thoughts were all countered when she received a call from her groom-to-be.
He had whispered sweet nothings to her ears. In his words, he couldn’t wait to see her walk down the aisle and how he was eager for the moment of removing her veil. Then they would share their first ‘holy’ kiss. According to him, that was going to be a holy kiss, the other ones they had while dating didn’t count because they were ‘unholy’.
In the few minutes that he called, she had already eloped with him to the moon. It was her chief bridesmaid that brought her back to reality. Binta had to hurry the hairstylist and makeup artist, or else they would be late for the church. They were ready, after some photoshoots, it was en route the church.
The church wedding was out of the world. Both bride and groom could swear they were on their honeymoon because they had no idea what was going around them. Do you know they barely remembered what the preacher said during the sermon? In their minds, they were ready for the reception in their dancing shoes. They just wanted to dance and let off steam and the tension they were feeling. The church service was done and dusted. The organisers were professional enough to keep to time. After the order of photograph, they quickly changed for the reception.
Their wedding took the whole day. In their hotel, they laid side by side tired, worn out and drained. Nyra could hardly believe that her groom was snoring like her neighbour’s ‘I better pass you generator’. He had woken her with his snoring. How come it was the wedding night that she got to know. However, all the snoring didn’t matter as she admired his sleepy face. She turned to her face to the alarm clock by the bed, it was already morning……. As got out of bed to relieve herself, she opened the window and allowed the sun shine through. Her eyes became clearer, lo and behold, her groom was no where. It was a dream all along….It was back to her singleness….
