Sometimes movie characters mirror real-life personalities as is the case of Idris Elba playing the role of Nelson Mandela in the movie, The Long Walk To Freedom. Other times they come as fictional characters completely cooked up in the creative mind of the scriptwriter. For these characters to stick and have a lasting impact in the minds of the watchers, they have to play a pivotal role. For two decades, the Nigerian movie industry has produced a number of characters we’ve grown to love or loathe, in this case. And though a few of them may be older than the millennial kid, they’ve lived longer than we hoped, in our memories.
Nneka The Pretty Serpent
The character, Nnneka the pretty serpent, played by Ndidi Obi was a spirit from the water world disguised as a beautiful woman with one mission in mind – destroy married men. The movie which had an obvious lesson of morality still gave those who watched it goosebumps, more so, married men who believed cheating was okay.
Karishika
“Karishika Karishika queen of darkness…” was her slogan. The 90’s underworld character was sent to tempt men with money, sex and their heart desire, after which she’d steal their souls for the devil. How evil!
Willie Willie
This anti-evil ghost-like character from the late 80’s was a young boy on a revenge spree. He was killed in a money-making ritual by a family member which ignited his after-world hatred for any greedy or evil act. This definitely kept kids in check!
