It wasn’t a time of ‘woke’ thoughts, natural hair enthusiasm or social media hype; it was a time when dreadlocks were seen through negative lenses. “It’s dirty” “it’s rough looking” are a few descriptive names attributed to this style. Recently at the 2018 African hair summit, the brilliant actress, Dakore, revealed she was harassed by people who thoughts she was mentally unstable or possessed with a marine spirit. Despite this, she stuck her grounds and we all silently loved her locks and a few people coveted it.
When she got rid of her signature locks, it became one of the most talked about actions. Many couldn’t picture her with another hairdo, and for a while, nothing came close to beating the locks. Years have passed and we still wish we could turn back the hands of time and stop her from making what may be one of the most life-changing decision. We can’t do that, so we have to settle for reminiscing; below are 4 reasons we loved her locks.
She made It look hassle free
If you follow the natural hair movement closely, you’ll realize the bane of the movement is the incessant need to use a multitude of expensive products to tame your ‘fro. Well, if your hair is matted like hers was, there is little need for a ceremony of beauty steps – just wash, moisturize and go!
Her colour highlights
Dakore made sure her locks weren’t just presentable, but also the envy of others. She often coloured her hair with blonde and brown highlights, bringing character to her hair.
Her perfect accessorizing
Accessories aren’t limited to just our bodies, and Dakore knew this. She often used decorative metal beads in her locks, while letting it frame her face beautifully.
Her updos were impeccable
When she wasn’t letting her hair down, she put it up in a stylish updo. Either way, she looked amazing!
