February has been tagged as the month of love because of St. Valentine’s day. If you are single to stupor, it is a day to dread but if you are in a relationship or married, you always look forward to it.
While gifts exchange is the main activity of the day, some married couples renew their vows, others just bask in the atmosphere of feeling loved and loving somebody in return. We are throwing back to when we were teenagers and the unlikely places we found love. Some of them are “non-functional” especially the apps then because newer technologies and other avenues have opened to meet the love of your life. Let us take a look at some of them:
1. 2go
Before Tinder and Bumble surfaced, back in the days, we spent time on 2go. All you needed on your Nokia C3 to connect with the opposite sex. Girls developed the strategy of using ‘tush’ usernames mostly with the prefix of sexy and queen e.g. “Sexychocolatemama33” or “Dynamicqueen231”.
2. Lyric books
If you are a millennial and did not send one of those emotionally powerful notes to your crush as a good morning text then you were a relic of a lost age. Lyric books literally gave 101 ways to keep your relationship. They helped construct good morning texts and other love messages.
3. Summer lesson
This was a good place to hook up with other boys and girls alike. After all, it was not in the usual school setting so mufti was allowed. It was okay to showcase your collection of clothes from your wardrobe to attract your crush.
4. JAMB lesson
Can we ignore this? This was not just about getting information about the exam, it was also a means to ‘nab’ a good guy or girl. Passing the exam was one thing but being the celebrated couple in the lesson was another consideration.
5. Secondary school
Raise your hand if you are still with your Secondary school “first love”. We all loved it when the love and romance were not just among peers but with seniors. This came with priviledges.
