Thursdays are nostalgic. This is because we do throwbacks. Today we dive deep into couple music groups, about three of them or so. It is a good thing when husband and wife share similar interests. It is more wonderful when they are in the same line of business. The support and encouragement from this venture are unparalleled and unmatched. Let’s take a look at 4 musical couples we admire:
T. W.O
Tunde and Wunmi Obe, professionally known as T.W.O are Nigerian show business couple, entertainers, television personalities and entrepreneurs. They met and began their music career as undergraduates in the 90s.
The Mandators
In the 1980s through to the 1990s, Victor Essiet of The Mandators fame, held sway in the Nigerian Reggae music scene. With back-to-back hits such as Rat Race and System, Essiet and his late wife, Peggy, toured the world preaching the gospel of Reggae music. Not only did he influence the likes of Lucky Dube, Majek Fashek(who was a guitarist in the Mandators band), and Ras Kimono, he also put Nigeria on the world reggae map.
Orlando Julius and Latoya
Julius was born in 1943 in Ikole, Nigeria to a merchant family during British colonialism. Julius’ first musical teacher was his mother, who would sing and dance while he played drums. He went to St. Peter’s Anglican School in Ikole and played in the school band. In 1957, after dropping out of school and the death of his father, he left for Ibadan to pursue a career as a musician. He worked at a bakery while playing the drums or flute with juju and konkoma bands. His wife, Latoya is a great dancer and he usually performs with her.
Adekunle Gold and Simi
How does it feel to have your partner in your music video? Adekunle Gold has featured his wife in his song and she has done the same. The chemistry feels real because beyond the music they are lovers. This is one couple that is doing well, individually and collectively.
