I learnt the principle of valuing quality over quantity from my elder brother. He always invested in quality brands. Undisturbed, he does not mind spending a fortune in buying the best quality of items because according to him, they last longer and save costs in the long run.
Dwelling on a ‘scarcity’ mindset, I thought it was all about the numbers but there was much more. Instead of going for quality, I would rather buy several clothes of low quality to wear. It appeared I was saving costs but it was waste of time. The clothes even though appearing to be many, worn out easily. There is nothing wrong with wearing ‘cheap’ clothes but it becomes disgraceful when they are faded or of poor fabric with thread pulling out.
As I write, my elder brother still uses the quality items he bought years ago. Even though he must have paid a fortune to get them, they are still serving purpose to date. If he had decided to go the cheap route, he would probably be making continuous purchases or spending money for repairs.
As a content writer, it required one produces a certain number of articles if not more. If we play by the quantity over quality, it is easy to dish much poor content to meet deadlines and targets. In a real sense, the whole effort is wasted because the content does not match up to quality even though it may be populating the writing platform. The content should provide value and not just take up space. This is where the role of due process and diligence coming play can not be ruled out.
The concept of ‘quality over quantity’ applies to all human endeavours. It is typically for humans to want to think about numbers, the ‘likes’, follow short cuts, cut expenditure at all costs. However, nothing good comes easy. This is where sacrifice is required to scale through. It may come in form of more money, more investment, more time, or delayed gratification. Stay disciplined. Knowing that this would pay off, in the long run, should be the motivating factor.
