We stand at risk to many diseases and loss of biodiversity because of poor environmental conservation practices. Little things such as proper waste disposal goes along way in environmental conservation. So what is Environmental conservation? This basically the practice of us humans to save the environment from collapsing, such as loss of species, ecosystems because of pollution and human activities.
Speaking of pollution, it comes in different forms, Noise, air, water. Living in the cities, pollution is not alien to the atmosphere. From noise from generator sets to loudspeakers, from religious institutions to the bus conductor beckoning to his passengers and the man or woman advertising their wares for sale, we have become accustomed to this lifestyle. People should respect people’s spaces. They should have empathy and consider the next person. Sometimes it is unavoidable to make noise, but it should be done with discretion so it does not disturb the other person. If you are in a public transport, do well to use earphones rather than blast music to disturb the whole passengers.
Held in traffic, the air is polluted by nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide and carbon monoxide emanating from the exhaust pipes of vehicles. The heaps of refuse by the roadside are not just an eyesore but contributes to foul smell in the environment. People unashamed dump refuse indiscriminately. The government is doing their best to create a clean environment, but it appears it is not enough. The citizens should also attempt to assist the government and not put the entire responsibility on them. If every individual would desist from throwing wastes anyhow. It starts from the decision to not throw waste outside of a moving vehicle. One would think it goes with wind but it settles somewhere and piles up as heaps of refuse.Industries should also invest in recycle materials instead of those that cannot decompose.
Oil spillage has resulted to water pollution. Fishes are unsafe and water is poisonous. All living things require water to live. When polluted, life can be difficult. Oil companies should not set up pipelines in communities to avoid pipeline vandalisation. They should carry quality control to ensure the community’s water is safe from oil spillage. They should place lives before any other business. The environment is one of the free gifts of nature. If we don’t preserve and conserve it, no-one will.
