American rapper, Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. delivered a heartfelt tribute to Kobe Bryant last night during a virtual ESPY Awards. In the over two-minute video, the rapper rapped about how much Kobe meant to the Los Angeles community, saying:
“From Compton to Long Beach to Watts we all peeped and watched you,”
“From Crenshaw to Malibu/We was all proud of you.”
He continued documenting Kobe’s career from his jump from high school to the NBA in 1996 to his numerous achievements. In addition to the Kobe Bryant tribute, the 2020 ESPY Awards dedicated a segment to the Black Lives Matter movement. Athletes Russell Wilson, Megan Rapinoe, and Sue Bird appeared in a five-minute video to call for unity against racial injustice following the murder of George Floyd and victims of rape.
