Wayne Rooney has signed a four year contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2019.
Doubt had been cast over the striker’s future after Chelsea made their interest in him clear and reports that he had grown disgruntled with the Red Devils.
“”I am made up to be staying at United,” he said. “In August I will have been at the club for 10 years and during that time I have played with some fantastic players and won everything that I hoped I would when I first signed.”
The new contract is said to be worth around £300,000 a week and offers some comfort to United who are currently 11 points away from the top four. Rooney, who has scored 208 goals in 430 appearances for the club, is tipped to succeed Nemanja Vidic as captain at the end of the season.
