Several schools of thought believe that marriage is tested in its early stages. This is because the emphasis is usually on the wedding and not the marriage itself. One wise man once said, “It is better to prepare ‘For’ marriage than to prepare ‘In’ marriage”. That way you save yourself a lot of issues.
With marriage comes responsibilities. You are most likely to think of your job, children, and day-to-day tasks that you become trapped in a routine – and then marriage becomes boring. The following 5 tips show how to spice your marriage, especially during the first year:
1. Do something just because
Little gestures can go a long way in showing how much you care. So don’t wait for a special occasion to cook your husband his favourite meal or buy your wife a gift–do it for no reason or write your spouse a love letter and tuck it in his briefcase.
2. Get dressed
Your spouse didn’t fall in love with you on your looks alone, and sometimes your schedule just doesn’t allow time to get dressed fabulously. Put effort and look extra nice for your partner once in a while. Do your hair, put some makeup on, put on your favourite outfit, and remind your better half of what a good-looking pair you make.
3. Communicate
Communication is the lifeblood of any relationship. In marriage, communicate about what you want from your partner in your romantic relationship, not just the usual daily routine talks. Select one or two areas that are most important to you. For example, do you wish he would plan a date night out without you having to do all the work of making reservations and finding a nanny? Be open about areas you think you can improve in, and make a conscious effort to try.
4. Have sex
Let’s be honest–sex is essential to staying connected to your partner and yet some couples don’t always make time for it. Keep the spark alive by making sex a priority. No matter how busy your schedule is, make time for sex with your significant other. And while you do so, be bold and try something new in the bedroom. Breaking away from your usual sex routine would surely reignite the spark.
5. Compliment your spouse
Everybody loves compliments so make it a lifestyle with your spouse. You should think of all the good qualities your partner has, and make an effort to compliment her/him at least once a day. This is a nice way to let him/her know you appreciate him/her. The result will make your partner think about the things he/she likes about you, too.
