These days, through every form of media – radio, TV, Internet and Newspapers – we are bombarded with negative news. It’s as though there’s a conspiracy against the spread of positivity. It becomes clearer why most (if not all) of us seem to dwell only on the negatives.
We should pause to consider the effects of such information in our lives. There is no gainsaying that everything in this world is preceded by a thought. Thoughts precede form in all cases; therefore, if you wish to fix the latter, you must first change the former. This is a fundamental truth.
Simply put, we live in a world of cause and effect, i.e. for every cause, there is an effect and every effect has to have a cause. Everything that happens in this world (form) is an effect, caused by our thoughts.
It is important to reflect on this and remind ourselves to never lose control of our minds and thought patterns by always guarding our hearts and sieving every information presented to us by our friends, family, strangers, well-wishers and evildoers
We should aim to think positive.
The concept of positive thinking is that the human mind has the power to turn wishes into reality through optimism. In other words, we possess the power to create with our thoughts.
Ipso facto, positive thinking is a mental attitude that creates an environment conducive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favourable results. A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome out of every situation.
Important to always bear in mind is that whatever the mind expects, it finds. This is a powerful tool that everyone possesses the ability to wield, but only a few are aware of.
In his letter to the Philippians, Paul the apostle said, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:8).
Let us learn from his words and take steps to ensure that we do not dwell on all the negatives that tug at our attention, rather let’s endeavour to keep our minds stayed on the positive so we can lead a life of peace. As the mammy wagon philosopher puts it’s; “No Shaking!”
