Most Nigerian couples seal their marriage bond by having a traditional wedding and/or religious wedding, court weddings are not too popular. Courthouse marriage has been a thing for a long and is arguably still the least famous form of marriage in Nigeria. If you are doubt about having a court wedding, the following reasons would convince you:
1. Court marriage saves money
If an extravagant ceremony seems too overwhelming for your schedule or your wallet, getting married in a courthouse might turn out to be one of the most prudent financial decisions you will ever make. An elaborate church or traditional wedding are beautiful ways to celebrate the beginning of a married life, but they are certainly not the only ways. If you had a courthouse marriage—at the end of the day—you and your partner will still be ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’ and the same certificate, issued in church/mosque, will be handed to you.
2. Court marriage is stress-free
While certain circumstances may warrant that a wedding be conducted quickly and quietly, some people just really hate all the noise and the paparazzi. A courthouse wedding provides a conducive and convenient avenue to get married. You get to save your money, time, and energy. You also get to avoid unnecessary, and often unwanted attention.
3. Court marriage limits uninvited guests
Planning a wedding can be stressful when you have a large number of guests. A courthouse ceremony not only helps you trim your guest list without hurting anyone’s feelings. It also gives you the opportunity to celebrate one of the most important days of your life with people close to you.
4. Court marriage saves time
Courthouse weddings are real fast, as opposed to church or traditional weddings. There are no long sermons and songs in courts, no crowd, and definitely no noise.
5. Court marriage is completely legal
A courthouse marriage is totally legal so you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
