Some may pin her as a radical feminist because of her controversial views which aren’t in tandem with the patriarchal ideologies of the average African society. Even those who claim to pitch their tent under the umbrella of feminism aren’t entirely in support of her, but notwithstanding we can’t deny her guts of steel and fearlessness to attack a sitting culture that, for years, has seen women in a lesser light. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is our Woman Crush Wednesday.
The writer and very vocal advocate for feminism recently had an event on the 22nd of September tagged ‘An Evening With Chimamanda’ in Victoria Island, Lagos at The Work Station to discuss her latest books: Dear Ijeawele and We Should All Be Feminists. Adichie who recently expressed her sadness when her mother saw all at the negativity hurled at her from Nigerian social media users after she questioned Hillary Clinton’s choice to include “mother” as the first descriptive term on her social media bio box, was all smiled up at the event.
There are several issues she touched on, ranging from domestic responsibilities within a home and the most controversial of all, bride price which according to her, she finds ‘disgusting’.

Even though she may tilt towards extreme new-age feminism, she has definitely left her mark in the enlightenment of women regarding their self-worth within the society.
