Sometimes black excellence translates to mean a group of black kids beating all odds to snag a college degree; sometimes it could mean a black immigrants discovering the solution of an age-old problem or rising to be a senator in a white-dominated space; other times it could be a young black woman making her dreams come through with brilliance and resilience. Our Woman Crush Wednesday, Issa Rae, is that woman for us.
Starting from the bottom, Rae first garnered recognition on YouTube for her comedy series, Awkward Black Girl, however, she has since climbed up the ladder to co-writing and starring in the HBO television series, Insecure.
Not just that, she has also received two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Rae is an example of black excellence in the form of black girl magic that most young black girls should aspire to.
