Our Woman Crush Wednesday, Tosin Otudeko is a multifaceted writer, poet, and producer with an extensive background in film, theatre, and TV. She has created a rich catalogue of musical poems and has been instrumental in developing the ‘Heartbeat’ Musical with collaborators, produced by Lufodo Productions. Tosin also wrote and produced the feature film ‘Over The Bridge,’ which premiered in 2023 and became the most nominated film at the 2024 Africa Magic and Multichoice Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA). Her credits include work as a commissioned writer for films and series such as ‘The Wedding Party’ (Netflix), ‘E.V.E’ (Africa Magic DSTV), and ‘Desperate Housewives Africa’ (Ebony Life TV), as well as producing the poetry album ‘For The Love of Words and Music.
She founded The Garden Theatre to create, perform, produce, and collaborate, engaging a diverse array of talent, including musicians, dancers, actors, poets, and singers. Her producing credits include ‘Renaissance’ (2001), ‘Job’s Wife’ (2007), ‘Music and Lyrics’ (2008), ‘Heartbeat’ (2009, 2011), ‘New World Nigeria’ showcase at the Theatre Royal Stratford East during the London 2012 Olympics, British Council Lagos Theatre Festival (2014), ‘Digging For Gold’ (2014), and ‘Heartbeat The Musical’ with Lufodo Productions (2016-2017).
Tosin has also performed in various productions, including playing ‘Azue’ in Ahmed Yerima’s play ‘Little Drops’ and ‘Nali’ in ‘Job’s Wife,’ and she has performed poetry from The Garden Theatre Poetry Collection.
She completed a course in Classical Acting at L.A.M.D.A. (2005) and attended the Stage One UK Producers Workshop (2014). She was a judge on FIRSTARS, a reality show aimed at discovering new talent in film production (Ebony Life TV 2016), and served as a Screenwriting Facilitator for the Riverside Studios/Fate Foundation Imagery program (2017). Tosin consults for L.A.P.A. performing arts institute and is part of the A.W.E. network of Mentors in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate in Lagos. She is a member of the WGGB (Writers Guild of Great Britain) and serves on its Film Committee and annual awards voting panel since 2018. Additionally, she is a member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYs).
Her journey in music, poetry, and writing began in childhood, driven by a love for performance and alliteration. Despite holding a first-class degree in Chemistry with Patent Law and professional experience in legal and consulting roles at Lovells UK, Accenture Nigeria, and Interact UK, Tosin’s passion for storytelling led her to create original works for a global audience.
