Our Woman Crush Wednesday, Wola Joseph is a sterling Nigerian amazon with a track record of excellence and professionalism serving in senior advisory and management positions. She is the Chief, Legal and Company Secretariat Department of the EKO Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP), where she also serves as the Supervising Chief of the Customer Service Department.
Before joining EKEDP, Wola worked closely with the Harvard Electricity Policy Group. In that role, she prepared several papers that influenced energy legislation in the United States. Wola had also worked with Lagoon Home Savings and Loans as its Chief Legal Officer/Company Secretary. Her work with Banwo & Ighodalo, a leading corporate and commercial law firm, as a Legal Associate adds to her extensive work experience.
A graduate of law from the University of Ibadan, with an LLM (specializing in International Finance) from the renowned Harvard Law School, she also has an MBA from INSEAD Business School. Wola is also an International Finance Corporation (World Bank) Board Evaluation Certified Professional and Corporate Governance Trainer.
Wola is affiliated with several organisations. She is a fellow of the Institute of Credit Administrators (ICA), as well as a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN), and Women in Energy Network (WIEN). She is also an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), and Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ).
She sits on the board of several companies and financial institutions. As a member of the Board of Trustees for the Jimi Tewe Foundation and a Matron of the Association for Health, Safety & Environmental Awareness International, she uses her wealth of expertise to give and add value to both organisations. She was appointed by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry as a member of the Public Affairs & Advocacy Committee. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of Newswire Law & Events Magazine and the Editorial Advisory Board of Electricity Law Reports (the first-ever Electricity Law Report in Africa).

She was ranked 11th out of the top 50 General Counsel in Nigeria in the 2019 edition of the LKS Seminars’ legal magazine. In 2018, Legal Blitz ranked her one of the top 40 under 40 lawyers greatly impacting the legal profession in Nigeria. As a results-driven legal professional, she led her team in wins of the Energy and Power Team for the years 2017 and 2018 at the ESQ Nigerian Legal Awards. In 2021, she received an award from the Association of Lawyers in Oil and Gas Nigeria for her years of distinguished service in the power industry.
