Yeyemide Fabamwo, our Woman Crush Wednesday, is not just a pretty face but a woman of timber and calibre. She is an HR professional with a decade of experience that cuts across the HR value chain. Having successfully taken on various strategic roles both within and outside HR, she has consistently been providing positive energy, breaking boundaries, and driving solutions using IT as an enabler of growth and development.
She has a first-class double honours from the School of Computing, University of Newcastle, United Kingdom. Before her current role as the Global HR Digital Services Manager for Unilever Tea Division, she worked across Reward Services, Talent Management, Wellbeing, Employer Brand, and as a Senior Business Partner for Unilever’s West Africa Market.
As a two-time One Young World ambassador with a strong passion for Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good health and well-being) and 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure), Yeyemide is driven to find simple ways to serve the underserved. She is a certified mindfulness coach, and a strong proponent for well-being in the West Africa space. She describes herself as a passionate and purpose-driven intrapreneur who takes steps to ethically enable mental health awareness through technology, and using this tool to provide help for people sooner than later to eliminate global mental health crises. Technology is also front and centre in her HR profession, and she pushes for the use of IT technology and simplification as an enabler of HR solutions.
Both components – mental health and HR – seamlessly combined when Yeyemide helped set up the “click well” well-being app for employees in her company to understand the well-being resources available to them at any time. She also put in place mental health first aiders who are listening ears and the first point of contact for support in the company.
Yeyemide has also joined efforts to bring up the next generation of female professionals. Before returning to Nigeria, she served as the lead executive of Community Action Newcastle mentoring STEM girls across the UK to understand the best university courses for their future ambitions. This initiative has recorded massive achievements, and has impacted the lives of over 200 young females.
This purpose-driven HR professional loves travelling and visiting historical places. Her perfect weekend away from work would be spent in the great company of her amazing husband watching Netflix TV shows with uninterrupted internet access.
Yeyemide, a role model to many, is one lady full of purpose, seeks positive societal change, and has a huge zest for excellence. She is changing the modus operandi of the HR industry by putting mental health and well-being at the heart of professional practice. These valid reasons make her worth celebrating as our Woman Crush Wednesday.
