Though we have a relatively low ratio of women and girls in the techspace compared to their male counterparts, it is cheering to note that more organizations and communities are dedicated to supporting women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. They are providing opportunities for women/girls to break into the IT field is increasingly plentiful. However, this development has been marked with challenges for women to stand out in their field and land senior management roles. The following are 6 things possessed by women in the tech space:
1. Skill
Firstly, any female who wants to fast-track her I.T career needs the right skill. It is the qualifications and experience she brings to a position that will set her apart from other candidates and also give her the upper hand to land leadership positions. She can maximize her opportunities by developing her skills continuously even after landing a job she loves.
2. Curiosity
This is in terms of asking the questions ‘Why?’, ‘What?’, ‘Where?‘, ‘When?’ and ‘How?’. The IT industry is an exciting field that lets you unlock innovative ways to solve problems. The female’s curiosity would help her take advantage of many opportunities to unleash her ideas. It will lead her to learn new skills, push her to test the boundaries of the I.T field, and bring a sense of fulfillment. Just because they have an inquisitive eye, successful women in IT can improve systems and resolve complex problems on many levels.
3. Ambition
What’s with a female without the right ambition? That is her driving force and staying power. It is impossible to achieve greatness in any industry without the ambition to get there. Successful people share this trait, and women in IT benefit from embracing it, too. Her drive will help her tackle new challenges and motivate her to acquire skills because she is self-motivated and has a clear vision for her goals. Once the female determines where she sees herself in the future and makes plans to get there, she will succeed in her career and in helping people on the way.
4. Passion
Just like have an ambition, the lady in I.T needs to have a good measure of passion. It would make her stay on course, direct, and push her all the way. It is the vision that keeps her from giving up. Like any truly good job, your best work comes when you care as deeply about the process as the outcome. In overcoming the inevitable and exciting challenges of IT, it shouldn’t feel cumbersome when the female has invested in the work because she loves what she does. This should be the reason she looks forward to going to work every day and what motivates her to grow professionally.
5. The right team
Successful IT leaders find the people who bring out the best in them. It’s a chain reaction when they also inspire those around them, too. Part of the female’s success stems from the support system she has, the like-minded individuals with whom she collaborates withe, and the team with which celebrates her achievements. If she accomplishes a lot on her own, imagine what she can attain when she combines her strengths with those of a great team.
6. Health
It may sound cliche but think of it, nothing is achievable if the female’s health is falling. When we talk of health, we include every aspect- the emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, intellectual, and social. Every of these areas must be balanced, if one fails, it can affect others. It is pointless to be a working ambitious passionate zombie in I.T . The female should ensure she has sound health afterall good health is wealth then all others would align with her goals.
