Upon arriving in the UK for my university education, my dad took me Harrods to get some items that I needed to commence the new school year.
One of the items he got for me was a minimalistic leather wallet that had a vintage money clip. Recalling his words, “now that you are about to make your own life choices, it is important that you understand the value of money”. I didn’t get it at first for a wallet is used to keep the money so what does it have to do with the value of it? Immediately we left the store my dad gave me two £20 notes and told me not to spend it all at once.
In hindsight what my dad meant by “value of money” was the regulation of spending, because money is hard to work for but very easy to disburse. Therefore, the hard work that went into getting the money should be valued. The wallet itself is simply a gentle reminder of the labour endured. That my dad knew all along.
