Did you know that the medical term for razor bumps is pseudofolliculitis barbae? Razor bumps occur when ingrown hairs develop after shaving or using other hair removal techniques, such as waxing or plucking. Ingrown hairs develop when hair starts to grow back into the skin, instead of up and out. After removing hair by shaving, waxing, or plucking, the hair may curl and turn inward. As the new skin cells grow over the hair, it becomes trapped and causes a bump to form. Razor bumps usually develop in areas of the body where a person shaves or removes hair. These…

My relationship with Communications has led to great moments and memories. And it all started, professionally, when I was only 23 and seeking to make meaning out of my life.  Prior to this, I had always been a student of media (both figuratively and literally). I  grew up with more exposure to journalism than the average Nigerian child. My parents both had careers in the media. But I always wanted to do things differently.  One of the cons of seeing so much of Nigerian media is being aware of its flaws and shortcomings. The industry is riddled with systemic issues…

Star actress and singer, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have confirmed that their engagement is over, saying they are “better as friends”. This comes a month after Page Six broke the news that the power couple had split, although they subsequently claimed to be working on their relationship and were conveniently captured romantically involved by paparazzi, the stars released a statement Thursday confirming their split. They said: We have realised we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the…

What do you think of Instagram dabbling with letting users hide “like” counts in an effort to ease the pressure of seeking approval from others? On Wednesday there was an experiment at Instagram showing the option is a hit, it could be made permanent and even extended to Facebook, which owns the image-centric social network. “In 2019, we started hiding like counts for a small group of people to understand if it lessens some pressure when posting to Instagram,” a Facebook spokesperson told AFP. “Some people found this beneficial but some still wanted to see like counts so they could track…

I went to a public school where the walls were cages and the students had to make their own seats with shit-stained broken planks and crooked blunt nails. The teachers taught mathematics and English in Yoruba and our bodies always came home with regular hoofs of dust, wood, and cane. We never had a lunch break and sometimes we would go a whole week with teachers munching gossips and side dishes in the teacher’s office while the students threw tantrums and broke wood to make seats. I used to think my early days in secondary schools were horror stories until…

Yass! Thursdays are for throwbacks, the perfect time to go down memory lane and dig deep into what was obtainable before modernisation and advanced technology took over. Do you recall we used to watch telenovelas? We were so engrossed in their storylines, we hardly missed any episodes. They were filled with suspense, strange plots and intrigue.  It felt as if we were immersed in the characters. There were the heroes who seemed to be losing all completely at the expense of the villains. However, good always triumphed over evil. It was always a happy ending, sometimes the hero of the…

I remember feeling so cool with myself when my headmaster told me during my primary school days that I had a photographic memory. For several weeks after that, I felt like I was on cloud nine. I’d never heard of that term before but boy, did it make me feel clever. The euphoric feeling didn’t last too long though. In fact it came to an abrupt end a few weeks later, when I flunked my maths and science exams, plus a couple of other subjects too, for good measure. So I wasn’t a yet to be discovered genius after all.…
