Although Harmattan is characterised mainly as dry – in its extreme form, it is also accompanied by cold. When the weather forces us to cover up more, we believe we are left with limited choices, but it isn’t entirely the case especially when you know what you’re doing. Granted, looking sexy and freezing can’t be accommodated in the same sentence during Harmattan, but this doesn’t mean you can’t successfully pull off a sexy look all the while being warm. The below article is published in the Man to Man column asking the question, would you want this to happen to your Sister? A girl had a relationship with a nice looking young man that was everything she wanted her man to be. They got on well for 3 years but of course, like every relationship, they have their ups and downs, most of which was caused by other women in the guy’s life. You know how to find happiness: Just meet Prince Charming (or Cinderella), overcome all obstacles, get married. The end. Sure, we kind of know real life doesn’t work like that. And yet this “romantic” story remains right up there on its cultural pedestal. We measure ourselves against it when we “fail.” I know how that feels. I’m polyamorous — in two simultaneous loving relationships — which is a “failure” condition because if you really love someone, you aren’t supposed to want anybody else. But, I’m also a philosophy professor, and I say this blinkered focus on a single story arc…

Today being Throwback Thursday, we are time travelling to the family with a ton of drama. (And also not forgetting that Christmas is around the corner and family members will be cajoled into living under one roof. Urgh! the frustration.) The Nigerian sitcom showed what life was like in a big family: love presented in the form of drama and fights. This is due, in part, to the clashing of different personalities, which is – and has always been – a prerequisite for disagreements. Adding fuel to the already ferocious flames was the presence of three wives. A polygamous home is…

My dear daughter, To have a successful career, always take stock of your progress and keep your goal in sight. Have in mind who you are, where you are and where you are headed. If along the way you perceive that you’re heading for a dead end, make a detached appraisal of the situation and what needs to be done. From my experience, an in-depth appraisal precedes a much-needed mindset overhaul. This helps to get your mind updated to the changes and makes adaptation easy. But, my darling, to get to your predetermined destination, you need to stay focused on…
