The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) at the weekend intensified recovery of oil from the February 14, 2016 spill at the Forcados Terminal export pipeline. Supported by industry group Clean Nigeria Associates (CNA) and other oil companies, SPDC has deployed specialised equipment to contain the spill. SPDC has also mobilised clean-up teams and contracted a specialised aircraft to join in the response. Production into the terminal and crude oil exports were stopped soon after the spill was discovered. The Lagos State House of Assembly Housing Committee over the weekend summoned 28 out of 30 contractors handling building construction in Lagos HOMS projects in Ajara, Badagry area of the state. The Chairman of the Committee, Olanrewaju Layode who led the team on inspection tour as part of its oversight function frowned at the slow pace of work at the site. Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday morning declared Senator David Mark of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Benue South Senatorial election re-run held on Saturday. The Returning Officer, Ishaq Eneji, announced that Senator Mark polled a total of 84,192 votes to defeat his rival, Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 71,621 votes. Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has promised to personally provide new uniforms for the over 400 pupils of Ifesowapo Community Primary School, Boluwaji, Ibadan which was the worst hit by the fire incident that recently engulfed the area.
