“This life no balance at all” Candy said to Phoebe. They had highlighted from a bus. The journey back and forth was not smooth.
“Give your life to Jesus or you will go to hell” The preacher in a black suit with bushy eyebrows and hair, refused to let passengers in the bus have some quiet. “Heaven is real! Hell is real!” He kept shouting.
It was getting offensive. The passenger directly in front of him had had to change his seat because he was almost soaked in saliva coming from the preacher’s mouth. Candy and Phoebe had sat at the back seat, convenient for them to gossip. The preacher’s sermon foiled this. None of the passengers could attack him less they seemed like the devil he was preaching against.
That Saturday, both ladies agreed to do shopping. It was also an avenue to hang out. Family, work, studies seemed to have created barriers for their deep friendship. With the help of modern technology, they had caught up with each other’s life. Being the spinsters they were, they had their relationship stories. Phoebe was a single mother of one, who had found love again. Her friend Candy was the one having relationship issues. She was in love with Timothy, the same person Faith was seeing. The guy was not helping matters as he was playing along. Imagine! Two ladies to one man. He did not even draw boundaries or make known who he was more interested in. They were all high school classmates then. Faith, who was the head girl then, was enviable. Brilliant and neat were attributes that described her. Candy was just the normal student, not an olodo but one who carefree and just loved flexing. Timothy, who was from a mixed race, was everybody’s crush. His curly hair and accent made him peculiar.
Years later, he got entangled with Candy. They met by chance and got into a ‘steady relationship’. Meanwhile, Faith had been his childhood sweetheart right from time. Everybody knew they were seeing each other. Kasala bursted on his birthday when both ladies posted him on social media as their fiance.
“I don’t think it is good for ladies to fight because of a man” Phoebe finally as they had time to discuss while walking home.
“So what are you suggesting?” Candy responded
“Leave and let live. If he is truly yours, he would not let you go. Whatever will be, will be,” Phoebe said as she handed her friend keys to the apartment.
The man in question had shown no seriousness, but in Candy’s mind, she believed that something was going on between them.
She thought to herself “Every spirit of Faith, let loose….don’t come and pour sand sand for her garri“.
It was an interminable day at the shopping mall. Both friends settled down and got something to eat to continue from where they left off.
