The town was painted ‘red’ following Valentine’s day celebration this year. Lovers, married people and single people under the pressure of the day. It was a busy day for saxophonists, dispatch riders, eateries and every other stakeholder in the yearly celebration.
From the single people pretending to be happy without any boo to the lovers ‘peppering them’ on social media with their gifts of chocolates, cakes, roses and others, Valentine’s day came and we all went through it, not like every other day. In our usual custom, we would be throwing back to love songs we don’t mind jamming to spice up Val’s day. Take a look below:
1. Davido’s Aye
Before Davido fell and found assurance, he reminded us that love doesn’t cost a thing when he dropped Aye in 2014.
2. Dr Victor Olaiya’s Baby Jowo
Baby Jowo is actually super iconic. Over 30 years later and this song is still popping, either in its original form or the remix featuring 2Face Idibia. The fact that people are streaming it shows that it’s not only millennials and Gen Zs that love to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Gen X apply too.
3. 2Baba’s If love is a crime
Imagine 2Baba Idibia really sat down in 2006 to write a song about his willingness to be hunted down like bush meat in the name of love. See the things we do in the name of love. 2Baba Idibia was in his element when he dropped this jam.
4. J’odie’s Kuchi Kuchi
As much as the world has turned Valentine’s day into a lover’s thing, the truth is, Valentine is a time for everyone to love and be loved. Jodie’s Kuchi Kuchi is a good example of the variety of love we can express this season as it talks about a mother’s love for her child.
5. Banky W’s Yes/No
Even if the video has a different video vixen, we know this song was made for his wife, Adesua Etomi. This song carries the love vibes that makes you have butterflies in your tummy.
